Romania Trip 2025
8 million Ukrainians fled their country when the war started, 90% are women and children.

· Romania shares a 380 mile border with Ukraine.

· We are not alone in the pursuit of reaching the unreached. Where we see God at work with others of like minds we will join in partnership. Hoffmantown has built a relationship with our Romanian Ministry partners with previous mission trips, 2013-2016.

· Our Romanian Ministry Partners: Grace Christian School and Bread of life Church in Lugoj.

· Ministry Contact: Emanuel Olariu. Emanuel runs a primary/secondary school in Lugoj that is popular with many families because they teach English. This creates an evangelism opportunity as they also teach the gospel and Christ in their classes. Emanuel’s father pastors a church in the poorer area of Lugoj.

Mission Trip Purpose: The immediate purpose is to help in teaching at the school, some physical work at the school and/or church, evangelism, and incidental help with the refugees. The Hoffmantown team members will have the opportunity for evangelism as well as work with the refuges coming to Romania from Ukraine. Over the last several years, our partners have been renovating a large building that they acquired in the downtown area of Lugoj. They are nearing the end of the project and our team will have the opportunity to provide some physical help at the school. Additionally, they requested that we help teach the kids at the school.

Secondary purpose is to observe the situation and speak with our local partners to see what, if any, long-term ministry opportunities God is directing. Our past history has built a good relationship and their desire to have Hoffmantown come back to help.

Romania 2025 Trip Leader: Chris Atencio, Trip coordinator: Joe Crews

Mission Trip planning information:

· Trip dates: October 10-17

· Travel route: Timisoara destination airport via 2 stops Denver and Munich on United. Considering an overnight layover in Munich on return to debrief.

· Trip Cost: Individual cost should include airfare, meals, and lodging. Hoffmantown may cover rental vehicle, translators, travel insurance, materials, etc.

· Airfare (checked on March 3) is $1000 for economy, $1600 for premium economy.

· Rental vehicle: planning for (1) 8 passenger van, estimated at $1000/week. Will ask Romania partner to provide transportation for additional support.

· Lodging: Planning to stay near the town we are serving, Lugoj. Airbnb is approximately $1400, allows the team to cook. Estimate for individuals (if 8 people) = $175 for Airbnb. Will research cheaper options but may require approximately 45 minutes-1 hour travel time each way. Munich lodging is estimated at $100.

· Meals: may depend on lodging decision, estimating $45/day/person, plan for $360.

· Estimate trip cost/individual=1000+175+100+360=$1645 for economy fare and staying in Munich. For planning purposes, recommend $2000 to allow for fare changes or unknowns.

· Team size: 6-10

· Minimum age: 12 with parent, 18 without parent.

· No Visa needed.

· At least 3 teammates will have an international drivers permit.

A face-to-face question and answer period is scheduled for Sunday, March 23 at 12:30pm in room B209 for anyone interested in this Romania trip or any Hoffmantown Missions activities.

At our last Church Council meeting, we were blessed to have some of the Kids Ministry Council shared what they are getting to experience with Hoffmantown’s kids. Their joy was evident–each one who shared talked about how many blessings come their way when they invest their time with the children. Some spoke of AWANA, expressing how wonderful it is that when the kids memorize verses, their parents and teachers get to do the same thing. Some spoke of Kids Express and said it was the “happiest place on earth.” One spoke of MOCHA (Mothers of Children, Hearts Adorned), and about how spiritually strong it is. They all talked about how the children are learning, worshipping, and applying God’s word. They also said they love seeing how the children get involved, and they love that it spreads from the children’s programs into involvement for them and their families throughout the church. Caitlin Craft celebrated the growth in the volunteer base, but she also reminded us all that she still desperately needs helpers. As the majority of people who come to faith come as children, this ministry is vital. As VBS, camp, and other events approach, Caitlin wants to be sure we have all the help we need. We would never want to turn children away because we don’t have volunteers ready for them. The harvest is plentiful. . .let not the workers be few!
